Welcome to the Austro-British Society Tyrol
We welcome all those interested in Britain, its culture and the English language. We seek to promote intercultural learning, understanding and friendship, and to give interested people opportunities to experience and enjoy British culture.
- We have an extensive lending library of English books (10,000 volumes)
- We offer English conversation classes.
- We offer workshops for teachers (see programme)
- We hold weekly meetings for members, and organise special events such as seasonal celebrations, (e.g. Burns Night), film nights, lectures, visits to theatre performances, and excursions, all with the aim of promoting Austro-British friendship.
- We have strong links with the University of Innsbruck, and especially the Philologisch-Kulturwissenschaftliche Fakultät.
- We are currently developing our links to secondary schools in the Region
- We now have an audio/video (cassette, DVD and VCR) library in the Club Rooms. Lending hours: 16.00 to 18.30 Tuesdays (except holidays).
The Society has been in existence since the late 1940’s. Thanks to the generosity of Stadt Innsbruck we have our meeting room and library in the Hauptschule in Reichenau, where meetings are held most Tuesdays, October to June. Other events are held at the University and at central venues in Innsbruck. For more details see the latest programme.
We welcome newcomers to Tyrol, who can meet other English speakers, both ex-patriate and Austrian, and enjoy a range of activities. We welcome members of all ages and seek to offer a programme of events with something for everyone.
Why not join us and take part? (see here: 'Why should you join?)

Excursion
Meran, Dorf Tirol
The author Ezra Pound, who died in Venice, spent some years living with his daughter in Dorf Tirol near Meran. His grandson has very kindly agreed to open the doors of the Brunnenburg for us on the Saturday afternoon, making this the highlight of the excursion.
